The annual Art Walk is a great event that showcases downtown businesses as well as community artists. Discover the artwork of over 60 artists including painters, jewelry makers, photographers, woodworkers, potters, sculptors, musicians, and much more. Join us on the first Friday in June throughout our downtown district for the Art Walk and see creativity in action!

This is a family-friendly event, perfect for all ages.

July 4, 2019

The 4th of July Parade, presented by The Loft, is one of the largest events of the summer, and attracted thousands of attendees last year! What a great connection between Main Street and the city of Ames!

Want to include a float in the 4th of July Parade?

Entry fees are $0 for military, veterans or public safety groups, $15 for non-profit organizations, $35 for commercial, business, or non-public safety government organizations and $40 for political campaigns. A $10 late fee will be added after June 25.

Every year, Main Street Iowa hosts a Main Street Resturant Week. Downtown restaurants and bars will offer special prices, unique entrees and great drink options. Punch cards will be available and patrons who dine at five of the participating locations will be entered to win a prize. Bring your appetite and enjoy all there is to eat and drink in downtown Ames!

Celebrate all things German in Downtown Ames!

Tickets

Join us October 12 at Main Street Station for the 8th annual Downtown Ames Oktoberfest! The event will feature live music, dancing, great German food, Guttentag games, and much more! Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Attendees ages 5-20 are $5 and must be accompanied by parent.

Volunteers

It takes many hands to make events like this a success. Get into Oktoberfest for free by volunteering your time! It is sure to be a great time with beer, brats, live music and other traditional German fare!

Event Details

This year we are excited to bring you lots of new offerings! Oktoberfest will be held in a NEW LOCATION! Thanks to Main Street Station for giving us access to their parking lot for the day. As part of our Guttentag games, we’re thrilled to bring axe throwing by Ironside Axe Club in West Des Moines. If you plan to participate, PLAN HEAD! Closed toe shoes are required for axe throwing. Finally, we’re excited to bring a bags tournament to Oktoberfest! 32 teams of two players will complete to win the trophy.

Beer and wine will be sold throughout the day. Free beer steins will be offered to the first 1,000 attendees courtesy of Paul Livingston, Hunziker and Associates, Realtors.

We’re looking to get as many businesses as possible involved for this year’s Snow Magic Kick Off! Host a Children’s Activity to bring people into your shop, or participate in the window decorating contest to win the People’s Choice Awards for best window display in Downtown! The winning business of the window decorating contest will receive 2 tickets to an Ames Main Street 2020 ticketed event.


What is Snow Magic?

Snow Magic is a series of events held through November and December designed to help get people Downtown and encourage the community to think local first when doing their holiday shopping. In early November we host a Kick Off event with carriage rides and a tree lighting ceremony.

Foodies & Brew

Thursday, July 11, 2019 | 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Foodies & Brew features live music, food samplings from local restaurants and chefs, and samples of local, craft and micro-brews. Join us Thursday, July 11 at the Ames Municipal Airport Hangar, rain or shine!

All proceeds from Foodies & Brew go toward funding the historic preservation, beautification, and economic development of Downtown Ames.

Foodies & Brew is an adults only, 21+ event. Children will not be allowed in. This year we are offering a “Designated Driver” price that gets you into the venue, but does not include the sell of alcohol.
