Scottish Country Dance Lessons

  • Octagon Center for the Arts 427 Main St Ames, IA, 50010 United States (map)

Scottish Country dance is a dance form that started in the ballrooms and halls in Scotland in the early eighteenth century and is still done today.  There are branches of the Royal (the Queen is a patron!)Scottish Country Dance Society around the world and we are one of those branches.  We run classes in Ames and Des Moines and help to support and mentor the Celtic Dance Society at ISU, a student group.  The dance form is done in sets with a partner (although no partner is necessary to come, everyone dances with everyone!!).  We love having beginners and welcome them at any time.  We charge a small fee to help pay for our use of the Octagon ($30 for 10 weeks); our teachers volunteer their time and expertise.  We have several special events throughout the year including dance socials both in Ames and Des Moines, a day school workshop and mini ball at the end of January, and our grand ball in the spring.
