Artist Opening: Hua Pan "Women in a Box: Women's Objectification in a Patriarchal Society"
Hua Pan, a Master of Fine Arts student in integrated visual arts at Iowa State University, will present a collection of work developed during her graduate studies in an exhibition at the ISU Design on Main Gallery, 203 Main St. in downtown Ames. "Women in a Box: Women's Objectification in a Patriarchal Society" will be on display April 1-9. A public reception will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 3, with an artist's talk by Pan at 7 p.m. Originally from Guiyang, China, Pan creates art installations, pattern designs, paintings and video projects inspired by her personal background and experience in China. Her work incorporates elements from fashion magazines, mannequins, condoms, QR codes and shipping boxes that have strong connections with the mass media, fashion industry and consumers.
