THE UNCOMMON COMMONPLACE: PAINTINGS AND PASTELS by Chris Abigt
Through Nov. 14, Community Gallery, Octagon Center for the Arts
"Color and light are my passion. Every painting is an intentional expression of colors mingling and complementing each other and, when fused with intriguing light, having the ability to bring life to the canvas. I love nature and spending time observing the way light plays a significant roll in how colors are perceived. My enthusiasm comes from being able to paint the story of a simple place while engaging the viewer in a way that enables them to feel as if they have experienced that particular moment in their own story and would love to return. Every painting is based on a real place that magically weaves its way into a body of work that is slightly outside the "realistic" box while inviting the viewer to return to their own simple moments. I begin with a blank canvas, roughing in large areas of background colors without drawing. Then, using thin layers of oil paint, I move my way forward, experimenting with color and light as I gradually refine and add details to the foreground. This is my passion, letting the color and light of each work bring itself to life in a different, simple way, to each viewer." - Chris Abigt. For more information, please visit
